National Guard Troops Receive Thanks And Snuggles From Therapy Dogs For Their Service

Scott Fannin May 1, 2021

The National Guard troops who defended the nation’s Capitol and elected officials early this year served as a reminder of the good citizens who are still prepared to serve and protect during disasters, attacks, and calamities.

The Hamilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., moved by their patriotism, decided to host an event for them on Friday, January 29th. Twelve therapy dogs from the non-profit People Animals Love paid a visit to the hotel’s 250+ National Guard troops. It was intended as a token of appreciation for the enlisted troops’ unflinching efforts around the clock.

The majority of participants are from outside the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. And because they have been staying at the hotel, they have been away from their families and pets for many weeks. The troops enthusiastically embraced the chance to bond with the dogs, showering them with snuggles and pets.

The owners of the 12 dogs accompanied them. They adhered to social distancing guidelines by spreading out to numerous locations in the hotel. They occupied areas from the lobby to conference rooms where they were willing to express their affection and gratitude for military personnel.

Additionally, the activity aimed to honor service members for their effectiveness in deterring more violence and casualties. The workers of Hotel Hamilton have expressed gratitude to the service dogs and volunteers who assisted with the day’s activities.

People Animals Love is a non-profit organization established in 1982 in Washington, D.C. It coordinates a network of 500 privately owned dogs and a few cats that provide assistance to individuals in a number of environments, including classrooms, libraries, and assisted living facilities.

Throughout the pandemic, the group has shifted its focus away from in-person meetings and toward a virtual platform in which children who are learning reading can sign up to read to a PAL dog. This is one of the organization’s first in-person rounds since the pandemic.
