Being unique or special can sometimes make a child shy away from the world and think that they don’t belong. Sometimes all they actually need is a little encouragement to try to live their life like any other child. But their parents’ words are sometimes not enough to inspire these kids.
Once again, our furry best buddies can help us with this problem. Is there anything that our doggos can’t do? In Waconia, Minnesota, a seven-year-old boy has found his voice that allowed him to tell his story about his amputated leg, and that thing that helped him is a little pooch that knows exactly what he’s going through.
Paxton Williams developed an infection in his right leg when he was younger. His doctors did their best to save his leg, but they were left with no choice but to amputate it. Paxton was fitted with a prosthetic leg to allow him to walk around just like a normal boy, but this seemingly wasn’t enough.
The little boy developed confidence issues because of his amputated leg. But luckily for him, his family has found Marvel. She is a Golden Retriever puppy that was born with three legs. Her breeder, Barb Felt, knew that Marvel was born with a special mission. So she wanted shelters to find Marvel an amputee owner.
Dog breeders usually put down doggos with birth defects like Marvel, but Barb saw the pooch as a special doggo, rather than a “defective product.” Much to the delight of Paxton and his parents! Paxton’s mom, Stephanie Williams, shared that since they have had Marvel, her son has found his voice.
Paxton was no longer shy about talking to other people about his amputated leg. Through Marvel, Paxton has realized that being an amputee isn’t too bad. Especially since he always sees Marvel joyfully running around, loving life, despite her birth defect.
