Man Rescues Dogs Despite Threat From Super Typhoon Rolly

Man Rescues Dogs Despite Threat From Super Typhoon Rolly

Scott Fannin December 5, 2020

On November 1, 2020, Super Typhoon Rolly, with the international name Typhoon Goni, landed in the Philippines. The typhoon brought strong winds and caused flooding in several provinces, causing hundreds of families to evacuate to safer places.

In Albay, one of the badly hit provinces, a man named Fifi Navarra went back to his house to save his dogs. Fifi’s family relocated to their neighbor’s house during the onslaught of the typhoon. However, he left the dogs behind because his family needed to relocate fast. He put them on a leash so they won’t wander off outside the house during the superstorm.

When the floodwater started to rise, Fifi knew that he had to go back to their house to save his furbabies. His father told him not to go anymore as the weather condition was already dangerous. But, Fifi insisted on rescuing his dogs even if it means putting his life at risk.

The water was already relatively high when he reached their house, so he hurriedly rescued his dogs. He passed through their window then cut off their leashes with a knife. He then instructed them to swim towards their neighbor whose house had a second floor to all be safe. There, they waited until it was already safe for them to go home.

According to Fifi, all of his dogs returned home safely. However, one of them seemed to be traumatized by the incident. The dog did not want to go out nor eat. But eventually, the dog already started showing signs of recovery.

Meanwhile, several other pet owners also showed concern for their pets during the onslaught of the typhoon. Those who relocated to evacuation facilities also brought their dogs with them. The hashtag #NoOneLeftBehind went viral, and it pertains to getting everyone to safety, including the beloved pets.
