Most teens nowadays spend their waking hours on social media, sports, and hanging out with friends. But Eduardo Caioado has other things in mind. He is passionate about helping stray dogs find forever homes and dreamed of putting up a shelter for them. That dream has finally come true!
A childhood dream
Eduardo has been helping stray animals since he was nine years old. Since he lives in a cold region, he would often see street animals dying from hypothermia. He feels compassion towards stray animals who need to fend for themselves out in the streets.
Not a lot of people are helping these poor animals, so Eduardo decided to step in. At first, he would gather blankets to keep the dogs warm and then deliver them with some food to eat. Day after day, more and more dogs approached Eduardo. It was as if they knew he has something for them.
Eduardo wanted to do more. He imagined having a shelter for stray dogs where he could keep and care for them until they become fit for adoption. If some of the dogs don’t get adopted, Eduardo says he will still keep them.
A dream come true
What Eduardo didn’t know was that his dream for a dog shelter would someday come true. Now at 17 years old, Eduardo was able to put up EduPaçoca Institute, a shelter and daycare center that takes in stray dogs in the city of Anapolis.
The institute is not just a simple shelter, though. Eduardo wanted the dogs to enjoy their time there and rehabilitate their broken spirits. He put up a colorful nursery with toys, and included activities like dancing, playing and celebrating themed birthdays.
Eduardo’s shelter is now home to 22 dogs and four stray cats that he rescued. Eduardo knows that there are still a lot of animals out there that needed rescuing, and his shelter might be too small to accommodate them all. He would like to expand and rescue more animals, including those that are old and injured.
Eduardo’s selfish devotion to saving needy animals is truly admirable. Thank you for everything that you do, Eduardo!
