When a young Pit Bull was rescued, they named him Gargoyle because of the way he looked. He didn’t grow fully, and his legs were deformed. Sadly, the name was appropriate.
His stunt in growth and deformity happened because for the past two years, ever since he was born, he was left in a tiny cage and was never let out since.
Thankfully, the poor dog was eventually rescued and given a second chance in life, he was even given a new name.
More than heartbreaking
The pup was brought to a shelter after he was rescued but they didn’t have the resources to give him the attention and treatment that he needed. So he was referred to a non-profit rescue organization, called the Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs.
According to the organization, the dog, which was later named Landis, was one of the saddest cases they ever took. His state was more than heartbreaking and they couldn’t imagine what he had gone through.
Aside from being small and deformed, Landis was emaciated, and his spine was curved. His legs looked like it was folded and he couldn’t straighten them.
But amazingly, despite all that he has gone through, it seemed that there was not an ounce of anger in him. Landis was still a very gentle and loving dog that was very friendly.
To help him out, the rescue group took him to an orthopedic specialist who said that there is still hope for the dog’s legs to improve. He may not be brought back to a perfect state, but there will be a vast improvement. With regular exercise and therapy, his muscle tone came back, and he started to learn how to walk normally.
He has even found a good home in Massachusetts, where he has a huge backyard and a beach nearby to walk and run.
After three months with his new family, Landis is walking near normal and getting stronger every day. He looks very beautiful now and more importantly, has a family that loves him so much.
