Thousands of years ago, our doggos loved wandering around the mountains and because that’s just who they were. They were nomadic animals who loved to roam around, so we can’t really blame our pet doggos if they love exploring their surroundings.
However, as all dog parents know, pet dogs running around the neighborhood could lead to trouble. Especially if the dog’s humans lived in a harsh environment just like this runaway dog from Russia. This pooch was found stranded on a huge chunk of ice floating in the Arctic Ocean.
This doggo was found in the Yamalo-Nenets region, which is found in the northern part of Russia. So you could imagine how freezing this environment must be! Nobody knew how this pupper ended up in the floating ice, but what we know is that she’s extremely lucky that Russian sailors spotted her.
The sailors were on board the Alexander Sannikov icebreaker when they spotted the furry adventurer. The pooch was hesitant at first, but the sailors threw some food to coax her in. They used the ship’s ceremonial ladder to get her on board, and their plan worked!
The captain’s assistant, Yevgeny Nagibin, then used their communication devices to reach out to the nearby villages. Not long after, they received a response from a village that had been looking for a white doggo for weeks! It turned out that the pup’s name was Aika, and everybody from her village had been searching for her.
The one-year-old pup’s owner, Svetlana Chereshneva, was elated to have her baby back in her arms. She shared in an update interview that it took a while for Aika to regain her appetite and that she was recovering from an injury on her paw. Also, Svetlana noticed that Aika is no longer eager to go outdoors, and that could be a good thing.
