I often wondered what shelter dogs think about when they get adopted. Do they understand that they’re finally leaving the shelter for a better place? Or, are they appreciative that someone is finally taking them to a real home and a real family?
We may not truly know what shelter dogs think about when they get adopted, but some rescue dogs show real appreciation when they finally get adopted. A dog named Bonita is a rescue dog that lived in the Niagara SPCA. Bonita was the longest resident in the shelter, and everyone coming in to adopt a dog was overlooking Bonita.
Bonita is one of the sweetest dogs at the shelter, which is why volunteers and staff at the shelter were baffled why no one wanted to adopt Bonita. Bonita waited for nearly 500 days for someone to come along and make her a part of a loving family. It was almost Christmas when a man named Ray Kinz went to the Niagara SPCA to adopt a dog.
When Ray walked in, he asked the shelter staff for the oldest dog or the shelter’s longest resident. This request led Ray to meet Bonita. Ray immediately fell in love with Bonita and decided that she’s the perfect dog to add to his family. As Ray and Bonita were walking out of the shelter, the staff lined up outside to say goodbye to Bonita.
Everyone was so proud and happy for Bonita that she finally found a forever home. Bonita also showed her excitement as she jumped for joy and gave everyone puppy kisses to say goodbye. Bonita couldn’t stop giving Ray puppy kisses as if she knew that Ray is her new dad.
Having lost his dog recently, Ray missed having a dog in the house. He missed having a friend who will enthusiastically greet him after a long day at work. Now that he has Bonita, Ray couldn’t be happier. Ray and Bonita’s Christmas wish finally came true when the two found each other. Here’s a heartwarming video of how Bonita found her forever home just in time for Christmas.
