Heroes in these modern times come in a variety of sizes and shapes. They don’t wear costumes and capes, unlike the ones in movies we enjoyed watching growing up.
Today’s heroes look very much like you and me. They dress the way people normally would, and they go about their usual routines every single day. The hero in them comes out whenever they meet people who are in dire need of help. They set everything aside to make sure these people’s needs are addressed.
Aside from humans, animals are also born with the capacity to be heroes. In fact, Pui, a brown dog from Thailand showed the world how hero dogs can be. He rescued a newborn baby dumped in the trash.
An unlikely discovery
The dog had his nose glued to the ground in an attempt to find food when he then saw a white plastic bag on the trash pile. Curious, he grabbed the bag and carried it all the way home. He then barked until his masters opened the bag to see what’s inside.
The dog’s fur parents felt like the wind was knocked out of them when they saw a newborn baby girl in the bag. Worried, they rushed her to the hospital and asked the staff on duty to help them.
After some examination and tests, they were told that the baby only weighed four pounds and was born prematurely. The staff had to place the infant in an incubator to help her survive. They also looked after her until she was strong enough to be adopted by a loving family.
The furry hero
In case you’re wondering, Pui received recognition for saving the girl’s life. He received a special medal and a leather collar from Red Cross. He also got free checkups from a local veterinarian and lots of treats from strangers who had so much appreciation for what he did. To top it all of, people in the community came together and gave his owners a whopping $300!
